Right now, there are Australian households who are going hungry. And many of them are families just like yours. ABC Radio is joining with Foodbank in the ABC Gives appeal to help put food on the table of those in need in our community.
The price of essentials like food, housing, power and fuel has climbed so much in the last year that people who were already struggling are now susceptible to sudden bill shock and financial disadvantage.
The current economic climate has meant demand has increased alarmingly:
“It’s not just the food. When Centrelink wasn’t there, Foodbank was. They don’t judge, they just help. You guys are honestly angels. Without you, things would have been… bad. Starvation bad. If it wasn’t for you guys, I wouldn’t be feeding my family."

“We found ourselves in a perilous position of not meeting our bills, let alone putting food on the table. I suddenly became acutely aware of the price of food and how easily those prices can bring on anxiety attacks. I now stop missing meals in order to feed my family. Without accessing Foodbank, I would be unable to put food on the table or to pay my other utilities.”

"I never thought I would be in this situation. Admitting you need help is the hardest thing. It takes someone brave to speak up. For a long time, I didn’t and it just got worse and worse. The bills kept coming and I ended up in a bad financial situation.”
