Joshua Schuetz, 8, has been flown to Perth from Bali in an induced coma after a quad-bike accident in Ubud, Bali.
His injuries are said to include a "fractured skull and brain bleed" after the incident on Wednesday.
What's next?
Joshua's family is being supported by the Perth futsal community, in which he was a popular player.
An eight-year-old Perth boy seriously injured in a quad bike accident in Bali has been airlifted back to Australia on Friday.
The ABC understands Joshua Schuetz remains in an induced coma after the quad bike he was on overturned on Wednesday evening near Ubud, in Bali's central region.
His injuries include a "fractured skull and brain bleed," according to close family friend Bernice Ariasa.
She described Joshy, as he is known to family, as "sweet, funny and full of life".
He had surgery in a Bali hospital on Thursday night and his flight home landed at Perth Airport about 5pm.
Ms Ariasa said the expenses involved in getting Joshy medical care abroad were growing.
"The cost of this is unknown. He is in stable condition but in a coma," she said.
"We just want him safe and healed," she said.
Ms Ariasa told the ABC Joshy's team would be meeting on Friday night to support each other.
"We are all exhausted and trying to process the trauma," she said. "It has affected all of us."
"It's been a horrific experience. Joshy is a fighter."
"They have a saying in their team 'a little wolf never gives up.' And they are hoping Joshy will pull through this."
Soccer community rallies around family
Joshy was in Ubud with his family for a soccer tournament.
His Perth sports club, Cockburn Wolves Futsal Club, have shared a tribute to him on their social media pages.

"The Wolves is an inclusive club and we call for all our members from any faith backgrounds to pray for healing and hold space in your heart for Joshy Schuetz and his family."
The Byford Futsal League described him a "popular lad" in WA futsal circles and is holding a fundraiser for his family next month.
