Mountain bike rider airlifted to hospital after suffering 'serious injuries' at Maydena, in Tasmania's south-west

A mountain bike rider in his 50s has suffered serious injuries in a crash at Maydena, north-west of Hobart, which is home to world-famous biking trails.

On Saturday afternoon, Tasmania Police said the man was injured in a crash and airlifted by helicopter to Royal Hobart Hospital.

"A mountain bike rider has received serious injuries," police said.

The accident happened about 1:30pm on Saturday.

No further details about the rider or the crash were released.

Maydena is a small town west of New Norfolk on the way to Tasmania's Southwest National Park.

Its hilly surrounds are home to the Maydena Bike Park and its more than 80 trails, which hosted the 2023 Enduro World Series.
