Program: How does sportswear help or hinder women play sport?

Space to play or pause, M to mute, left and right arrows to seek, up and down arrows for volume.

It's been a record breaking year in women's sport — from the first gender-equal Olympic Games in history, to record crowds at women's rugby and netball games across Australia.

Despite that success, research shows nearly half of teenage girls quit sport by the time they're 17. And what they're asked to wear has a big impact on whether or not they play.

We look at some of the changes taking place — from free sports bras in schools to leak-proof shorts — that are helping young women and girls feel comfortable and confident so they can perform at their best.

Guests:

Illana Austen, teacher, Gilgandra high school

Prof Clare Hanlon, Susan Alberti Women in Sport Chair, Victoria University

Sarah Loh, CEO Softball Australia
